I get sent a lot of pet treats. Most of them end up in a drawer. This is where Choolip stands apart for me. The sticks are 100% grain and gluten free, with no carrageenan, agar, guar or xanthan gum, no preservatives, no artificial flavors or sweeteners, and no added fats, sugars or salt. The line was formulated by a Korean veterinarian, Dr. Eric, DVM, originally for his own pets, and the treats are made in an FDA-certified and HACCP-certified facility. They use tapioca starch (from the cassava root) as a gentle thickener instead of the irritating gums you see in a lot of squeezable treats. Each stick runs about 7–10% crude protein and 0–2% fat.
My pickiest cat is the real test in this house, and she came running at the sound of the wrapper. The texture is a velvety puree, and the smell is savory and meaty rather than the sharp "eggy" odor I dread with some fish-based treats. Choolip lists six ways to serve them: squeeze by hand, feed in a bowl, freeze and lick, use as a kibble topper, hide medication inside, or add warm water for a soup. The freeze-and-lick option was a hit on a hot afternoon, and using one as a topper made dinner disappear faster.
Choolip's guidance: for dogs, 1 stick up to 9 lbs, 2 sticks for 9–18 lbs, 3 sticks for 18–26 lbs, and 4 for 26 lbs+. For cats, 1 stick up to 7 lbs, 2 for 7–13 lbs, 3 for 13–22 lbs, and 4 for 22 lbs+. These are treats, not a meal replacement, and the brand notes to refrigerate after opening.
What I love: seven genuinely distinct, vet-formulated recipes in one box; clean, recognizable ingredients with no gums or artificial additives; individually wrapped and mess-free; flexible serving options; and a 5.0/5 rating across 17 reviews at the time of writing.
Worth knowing: at $49.99 for 49 sticks it's a premium treat, not a budget one; calories run slightly higher than some snacks because of the higher meat, poultry and fish content; and they need refrigeration once opened. None of these are dealbreakers for me, but they're honest trade-offs.
