Here’s what you need to know before working “in the cave.” Our best work is only possible when we feel safe. We are committed to building a community where everyone feels like they belong. Otherwise, we end up spending our days (and ultimately our careers) just sending emails and Slack and doing defensive, urgent tasks. We’ll feel better about our work if we can make progress on the important stuff. Start With The Hard Thing First Cavedwellers do the most challenging task early in The Cave while we still have our best focus and energy, . We often fall into the trap of building momentum with easy tasks, but suddenly, it’s 3pm and you don’t have the mental capacity to do your hard work. Multitasking promotes limited attention spans. That’s why Cavedwellers Monotask in The Cave. Multitasking is the only thing that the more we do it, the worse we get Splitting our attention across different tasks is not only counter-productive but also reduces our cognitive abilities. Starting with our phones, Cavedwellers leave all distractions out of The Cave. Close tabs, quit programs, mute notifications, hide that phone. Improving Our Relationship To Work It’s easy to get caught in the trap of productivity and the myth of hard work– to hustle harder, work 24/7, sleep when you’re dead. But the truth is, if we all worked smarter, and if we had better boundaries with our work, our whole lives would be more fulfilling. When our relationship to work is healthy (when it’s not asking for all of our time and draining us of our energy), our other relationships can thrive. We help you feel more accomplished every day and in control of your time. We believe that by improving the quality of our work, we can improve the quality of our lives. Jake Kahana - South Orange, NJ Jake is a creative director who spent the first decade of his career making ad campaigns you probably remember. He is a founding US Faculty member with The School of Life and creator of The Email Refrigerator . Recent projects include: BettVR with Age , 45Villians , and You’re Better Than Brunch . He lives in South Orange with his wife and two kids. He's proud to have his work in the permanent collection at both MoMA and his parents' fridge since 1988. Jeremy is an Emmy Award winning artist. Through juggling projects and collecting hyphens, he's learned how to get stuff done when nobody's watching. He tells stories and creates experiences that induce connection and challenge people to embrace their weirdness. Recent projects include: the feature film 3rd Street Blackout , the job portal Odd Job Nation , The Talk Shop and The Mystery Dinner. Molly Sonsteng - Minneapolis, MN Molly's work is focused on play. Her company, Madcap Factory , has created games and experiences for hundreds of people and companies to play more in order to bring more meaning into their everyday lives. She is a seasoned event producer, having spent years building and growing a morning dance party event series and freelances as a producer all over the world.
