Baby K’tan, LLC was founded in 2007 by the Chesal and Wernick families, each raising a child with special needs. Both families began researching best practices for healthy infant development and were quickly introduced to the world of babywearing. Using a carrier is not only practical, but also helps promote a strong parent- child bond, along with many other developmental and hands-free benefits. The families experimented with various slings, wraps and carriers and combined the best features into their own patented design, creating their flagship product, the Baby K’tan Baby Carrier! After many years in the baby industry, they started seeing how this exciting and innovative product also helped small pets bond with their humans while giving them hands free support. Thus, the K’tan team decided to expand into the pet industry! The award-winning Pet K’tan ™ Pet Carrier is a patented ready-to-wear soft fabric wrap that allows the caregiver to wear their pet in several positions without any complicated wrapping or buckling. It lays over both shoulders for full back support and is free of any hardware, allowing the ease of use to extend to the washer and dryer. We trust that you will adore our brand as much as we do and as well as countless parents around the world! Michal's oldest son, Coby Joshua, was born with Down syndrome in 1999. Coby's disability presented that need for Michal to create an environment for him that would facilitate his development and provide the extra simulation he needed for optimal growth. Coby was also born with hypotonia (low muscle tone) and was adversely affected by baby carriers that did not support his natural hip positioning. Michal wanted to hold Coby closely and show him the world in a developmentally appropriate way, but she was not satisfied with the carriers on the market. She began modifying existing slings and wraps to provide positions where babies can see the world while being held in a developmentally appropriate posture. Michal then adopted her elderly rescue Stewie, and since he was a little old guy of 15 lbs., she was able to offer him the same close bond in the carrier while taking him with her to places that were not so easy for him to get to on foot! Isaac's youngest son, Elitan Lev, was born in 2004 with a rare and serious heart defect known as TAPVR. He underwent a successful open-heart surgery at Miami Children's Hospital when he was four weeks old. After his surgery, Eitan was fragile and sensitive to pain. The Wernick family looked for the best baby carrier for carrying Eitan close, but were not satisfied with the carriers available on the market. They then borrowed Michal Chesal's modified carrier, and after a few months of use, both families began to make further improvements to its quality, design, safety, structure, and style. Isaac brought his beautiful rescue Dakota into his life a bit later, and although she was too big for the Pet Ktan, he was able to carry other friends little rescues when taking care of them while walking Dakota at the same time!
