Today, our founders Kait and Daniel are not only business partners, but parents to two tiny, cute, and curious "baby baristas." Our story began in the middle of burnout. Kait, once fully dependent on caffeine to power through stressful days and sleepless nights, found herself overwhelmed — working late, struggling with anxiety, and dealing with a parent’s illness. She loved coffee, but the caffeine was making everything worse. Giving up coffee felt impossible — coffee was more than a drink. It was a ritual, a comfort, and a connection. But every decaf option she tried tasted, well... like typical decaf. That’s when the question hit: What if you could craft decaf so good, you wouldn’t know its decaf? Our founder Kait used to power her days with endless caffeine. Before she founded Savorista, Kait was in an extremely stressful period of her life - one of endless work hours, a parent with cancer and anxiety. Kait was guzzling coffee to get out of bed, drinking more coffee to get her through the afternoon slump, working until 2 o’clock in the morning, and not sleeping because she’d had so much caffeine during the day. As everything she cared about started crumbling around her, Kait felt jittery, anxious, and close to collapse. Although it was evident that caffeine was a contributing source, she could not imagine giving up coffee. She loved the flavor, ritual, and relationships that were built over a cup of coffee. And to make matters more complicated, she had not found a decaf coffee she truly enjoyed. Kait began to wonder, “what if you could actually craft really good decaf that didn’t taste like, well, decaf?” A year and a half later, Kait was living a caffeine-free lifestyle and feeling better, and she knew she was ready for something...more. That question took Kait and Daniel around the world. They packed up their bags and set out on a global coffee quest — tasting, testing, and learning from growers in Colombia, Kenya, Rwanda, and Ethiopia. During a blind taste test in Colombia, they were stunned to discover that their favorite coffee... was actually decaf. And just like that, a spark became a mission - to craft astonishingly delicious coffee that you’d never guess was decaf. Fast forward, they got engaged in Ethiopia, came home with a vision, and launched Savorista — coffee reimagined for those looking to cut back, slow down, or simply enjoy coffee without the caffeine overload. Now as parents, Kait and Daniel understand even more deeply how caffeine plays a role in everyday life. After a sleepless night with the baby, a cozy half-caf brings just enough lift without the jitters — or more unwanted sleeplessness.
