Terache Honda 35% Gear Reduction Kit Review: Better Low-End Torque for Rancher, Foreman, Rubicon
Once I upgraded to larger tires on my Honda Rancher 420, throttle response in tight, technical terrain got noticeably worse. The Terache Honda Gear Reduction 35% kit was recommended by a few riders in my off-road group, so I gave it a shot.
Installation and Fitment
This kit replaces the OEM primary gear components (OEM part numbers 22100-HP0-A00 and 23120-HP0-A00) to deliver a lower gear ratio. At $499.99, it's a serious investment, and Terache is upfront that professional installation is required - this isn't a weekend DIY job for most riders.
Performance on the Trail
After installation with new Terache Super-Grip clutch discs (which they recommend pairing with the kit), the improvement in low-end torque and throttle control through mud and technical sections was noticeable right away. It's compatible with the Rancher 420, Foreman 500/520, and 2015+ Rubicon 500/520 models.
Pros
Pros: Noticeable low-end torque improvement, broad model compatibility, backed by clear installation guidance and warranty support.
Cons
Cons: Requires professional installation, does not fit automatic shift (DCT/FA) models, and electric shift/Pioneer models need an additional SpeedoDRD part.
Final Verdict
A worthwhile upgrade for serious off-road Honda ATV riders running bigger tires. See the gear reduction kit here.
