TrueLumens Cree-1000 German Osram Solar Motion Light Review: Finally a Security Light That Works

I've replaced solar security lights more times than I'd like to admit — the "1000 lumen" ones from big-box stores never actually seemed that bright. A friend pointed me to TrueLumens' Cree-1000 2-pack, and the difference was noticeable the first night.

Real Brightness, Real Detection

These use 20 German Osram 2835 LED chips rated CRI 93+, and mounted at my driveway entrance, the 25-foot PIR motion detection actually catches people at the curb instead of missing them. The light switches between 3000K warm white and 4000K daytime white with a double-press, which is a nice touch for mixing porch ambiance with side-yard security.

Built for Weather

The IP65 and IK10 rating means it's shrugged off two months of rain and wind without issue, and the 72-hour power reserve carried it through a stretch of cloudy days without going dark. TrueLumens backs it with a 24-month warranty and US-based support out of Corona, California.

Pros

Pros: Genuinely bright output, reliable motion detection, switchable color temperature, weatherproof housing, long warranty.

Cons

Cons: Needs 6-8 hours of direct sun for a full charge, so shaded mounting spots underperform.

The 2-pack is currently $89.99, down from $129.99. See the TrueLumens Cree-1000 deal here.
